Ethereal curls and classic up-dos got even prettier at Barcelona Bridal Week as Alejandro Resta’s models enchanted the fashion crowds with their horticultural halos.

Also, seen at Jenny Packham, Wtoo by Watters and Reem Acra, flower crowns are most definitely back on the agenda, and they’re bigger than ever before.

“The catwalks were in full bloom for spring, from oversized floral crowns to individual blossoms nestled in curls. To perfect the look, style your hair with a dedicated curl cream to minimise frizz and form defined, soft and shiny curls,” says Michele Scott-Lynch, founder of haircare brand Boucléme.

Bridal Braids

Spotted behind the scenes at Berta, Cymbeline and Suzanne Neville, bridal braids reigned supreme at the 2019 shows.

For an edgy yet pretty swept-back style, switch it up à la Berta and opt for a dramatic plaited parting.

“Romantic, classic, relaxed or bohemian, there’s a braid to suit everyone,” says award-winning hair stylist Lee Stafford.

“For a volumised fishtail plait, start by blow-drying the hair, moving the roots from side to side to build the body in your tresses from the roots outwards.”

+Sleek and Simple Wedding Hair

No-fuss brides can now opt for simplicity with a more controlled style.

Paired with a statement lip, this ultra-glossy look has real aisle impact. 

Paul Percival, Percy & Reed’s co-founder, suggests using a good quality hairspray to keep the sleek style in place, “followed by a final spritz of shine spray to leave hair smelling fantastic.”

Bridal Ponytails

Although chic, understated and classic, a voluminous, textured ponytail is still capable of causing quite the stir. 

“It’s always been one of our favourite bridal looks,” says Gustav Fouche of the Michael Van Clarke bridal team.

“A ponytail is elegant and sophisticated, but can still make a big statement. We’d recommend wearing this as your evening look because it’s fun, sexy and confident. You can dance the night away and not worry about your hair at all!”

Bridal Headpieces

If it’s a fashion-forward edge you’re after, get inspired by the likes of Gracy Accad, Eliza Jane Howell and Yolan Cris who picked out everything from feathers and pearls to pretty pins and bejewelled fringing on the catwalk.

A well-placed headpiece can do wonders to transform your big-day look. 

“If you like the idea of an alice band, add it before you put your hair up so it’s built into your bridal look, then finish off with a hold and shine hairspray,” says Ondine Cowley, third senior director and wedding hair specialist at Nicky Clarke in Mayfair.

Natural and Loose Wedding Hair

If it’s a less ‘done’ look you’re hoping to achieve, go with the flow of your natural texture and create a loose up-do with trailing tendrils.

Wavy Wedding Hair

Channel your inner mermaid with the new season’s penchant for heavenly waves, as seen on the Monique Lhuillier, Pronovias and Maggie Sottero runways.

Salon founder and head stylist Limoz Logli suggests “tonging your hair by taking small sections. Hold your tong vertically when doing this, as it’ll give you that much longed for ‘mermaid curl’ effect.

“Start from the nape of the neck and work your way up, making sure to twist the tong outwards around the hair, as this will open up your face. Then use the tong in alternate directions with each strand, to give the whole head a voluminous finish.”
